Forever Home Greyhound Adoptions is a group of very close friends who banded together in an effort to help as many retired racers as possible . We are a not for profit organization whose sole interest is helping the Greys find the perfect Forever Home.
Once the Greys have finished their career they just want a nice soft couch to lie on and a warm loving family to lavish them with love and attention. That's where we come in . The dogs love their racing career and the competition brings them great joy. Their love of running and the competition is genetic and it fills their lives with excitement and happy days . When their time comes to leave the workplace and join the retirement community , their owners and trainers let us know and we take them into our care until we can find them just the right family to take up where their loving trainers and caregivers at the track leave off . Its a partnership between the racing industry and Forever Home which works smoothly and affords the dogs a smooth transition from one life style into another.
Our liaison between the workplace and the retirement community is Monica Rigo. She devoted 25 hours a day 8 days a week to keeping track of who is retiring and when and who is available to receive the retiree and when. She is absolutely tireless and has devoted many years to making the transitions smooth and happy ones . She knows no boundaries when it comes to moving retired Greyhounds from their home at the numerous tracks that she works with to their new foster homes with the numerous placement groups that she also works with. She will travel as many miles as it takes to insure the retirees are settled into a safe and comfortable environment.

Our President and Founder Paula LaPorte after adopting her very first Greyhound LILLI decided that she had finally found her niche in life and went about forming Forever Home Greyhound Adoptions so that she could become totally involved in the responsible placement of these magical creatures . Once a Greyhound comes into your life it is changed FOREVER for the better is what she always says, and her mission now is to let as many people as possible know and to assist them so that they may also know the pure joy of sharing their lives with a mystical magical Greyhound!!
Our Vice President Martha Schoene has been a Greyhound owner for years. She currently shares her home with 3 of her own and ALWAYS has at least 1 foster dog on board. Martha is always willing to drop whatever she is doing to pick up retirees and bring them home. She and her husband Tom and their 2 daughters are very active as a family unit in the fostering and placement of our fur kids.
A Heartfelt WELCOME to ROBERTA BROOKS! Roberta is not only a wonderful friend but also an experienced Greyhound owner. She and her husband Jim have adopted 3 Greyhounds, Rick, Mandy, and Chicadee. They also own the Cat Nap Book Store in Cobleskill, NY. If you are looking for a special or unusual Greyhound book and just cant seem to find it, call Roberta. She may be able to help.
Our Secretary, Ginger Lent, is an experienced Greyhound owner and has the
patience and dedication to help our Greyhounds in waiting learn the ins and outs
of everyday home life. She fosters most of our females for us and teaches them
all the social graces so that they have a smooth transition into the home of
their new Forever Families. She also has about a million hilarious stories to
share and thinks that we should all put our heads together and write a book some
day.
Our most dedicated volunteer and Paula's right hand man is, Martin Amyot . Martin
is always available to accompany Paula when she travels to meet our transporters
and his help is invaluable. Martin has logged many miles and has provided untold
amounts of help and support not only while we transport our Greys but at our many
regularly scheduled adoption events. The dogs adore him and he returns the
feeling. We cannot imagine what we would ever do without Martin.
We are especially fortunate to have on board, our newest foster, Dave Secor,
who also attends to our website. Dave is a multi-talented man that we can always
rely on to take an extra foster, and who has made our fabulous website the
informational and educational masterpiece that it is today. Dave is also the
proud dad to 2 of our Forever Home Greys and is always available to lend a hand
at any of our many regularly scheduled and special events throughout the year.
We also would like to welcome the newest members of our Forever Home Family, Mimi
Dygert , and her husband Duane Knutson. Mimi and Duane are truly multi talented
folks who juggle jobs, Whippet Rescue, and still manage to foster for Forever
Home. Mimi and Duane give 110% of themselves to the dogs and always stand ready
willing and able to jump in whenever and wherever needed.
