WARNING

We have had many recent reports by adopters that their Greyhounds have had very violent reactions to both DHLPP vaccinations and particularly LYME vaccinations. Reactions vary from Paralysis to Seizures and even DEATH . Due to this problem Forever Home is recommending that our adopters DO NOT allow their Greyhounds to be vaccinated with LYME VACCINE. Some of the Greys are also reacting negatively to the DHLPP vaccines, so please...

Click here for information about our preferred vaccination protocol.

Our little tributes & Dedications to the Greyhounds who have passed on.

Your Pets In Heaven
by Ken D. Conover

To have loved and then said farewell, is better than to have never loved at all.
For all of the times that you have stooped and touched my head, fed me my favorite treat and returned the love that I so unconditionally gave to you.
For the care that you gave to me so unselfishly.
For all of these things I am grateful and thankful.

I ask that you not grieve for the loss, but rejoice in the fact that we
lived, loved and touched each others lives.
My life was fuller because you were there, not as a master/owner, but as my FRIEND.

Today I am as I was in my youth.
The grass is always green, butterflies flit among the flowers
and the Sun shines gently down upon all of God's creatures.
I can run, jump, play and do all of the things that I did in my youth.
There is no sickness, no aching joints and no regrets and no aging.

We await the arrival of our lifelong companions and know that togetherness is forever.
You live in our hearts as we do in yours.
Companions such as you are so rare and unique.
Don't hold the love that you have within yourself.
Give it to another like me and then I will live forever.
For love never really dies, and you are loved and missed as surely as we are.

Your Pets In Heaven

BRANDY

We report with heavy hearts that little BRANDY aka Apple Brandy passed quietly in her sleep on April 11th 2008 from heart failure . She was discovered by her mom, lying on her doggy bed with her little head on her favorite stuffed toy, so we believe she was playing when the call from the Rainbow Bridge came . She was joined at the bridge on June 22nd by her big brother Griffin, an Irish Wolfhound rescue who Pat ( their mom ) had opened her home and heart to several years before . God speed to both Brandy and Griffin as they play together in the grassy fields of Forever where they shall remain young and strong throughout eternity.

GERONIMO

We are sad to report that the Hockey family has lost their faithful companion GERONIMO to the dreaded Bone Cancer. Geronimo was only 7 years old when the call came from the Rainbow Bridge. Left behind to mourn his loss are his Mom & Dad, Dave & Cherie and his 2 human brothers, Kevin and Elliott . His Canine sister Ponder is also mourning the loss of her constant companion . Our deepest sympathy goes out to this wonderful family who loved and cared for Geronimo these past years and we know that somewhere on the other side of the beautiful Rainbow Bridge, Geronimo is waiting patiently . Until they meet again, we hope they take comfort in the knowlege that Geronimo is healthy and happy once again and spends his days running free with those who left before him and met him there .

CHASE

We extend our deepest sympathy to Frank & Donna who recently lost their best friend CHASE . Barely 5 years old, Chase left them far too soon. He was such a loyal and loving friend and he will be dearly missed. We hope that Chase's family can take solice in knowing that Chase is now running with the wind in the green green grass that grows on the other side of the beautiful Rainbow Bridge with all of his dear Greyhound friends who have gone before him.

MURPHY

We learned with great sadness that Murphy, a sweet and gentle giant has lost his life after a valiant battle with Bone Cancer . Our hearts go out to his mom, Joyce and her son Shane who have loved and shared their lives with Murphy since his adoption last May . Though their time together was short, we know without doubt that it was the happiest time of Murphy's life and that the special love he and his family have shared will always have a special place in their hearts. Murphy has gone to join all of the furry friends who paved the way to the beautiful sunny garden on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge. We will never forget you Murphy.

QUINN

With heavy hearts we bid a sad farewell to QUINN , who lost his battle with Cancer on December 31, 2007 . Left to mourn his passing are his loving parents Janice and Paul Semanek. Quinn came to Janice and Paul late in life through unfortunate circumstances when his original owner left the country and could not take Quinn with her. Quinn was left behind, sad, lonely, and confused at the racing kennel from which he originally was adopted several years previously. When we learned of Quinn's plight we had him transported to NY from Florida and within hours of his arrival, Janice and Paul opened their home and their hearts to this gentle giant. Though their time together was all too brief, the lives of both humans and Greyhound were enriched beyond belief. The treasured gifts they bestowed upon one another could never be described by words alone. Although this beautiful soul no longer walks among us, he will long be remembered with love by all who knew him, and we pray that he now runs joyously with those who passed before him, whole and free of pain on the other side of the beautiful Rainbow Bridge.

CLEO

We bid a sad farewell to CLEO who lost her valiant battle with bone cancer in October 2007. She is shown here with her brother Billy Crash on their sofa at home. Below is a loving tribute to Cleo written by Cleo's dear friend Kevin.

Near this spot are deposited the
Remains of one who possessed
Beauty without vanity,
Strength without insolence
Courage without ferocity
And all the virtues of man, without his vices.
This praise would be unmeaning flattery
If inscribed over human ashes
It is but a just Memory of
"Cleo A Dog"
October 10, 2007

Sneakers

With heavy hearts we learned of the passing of CHECKERS, now known as SNEAKERS. Sneakers passed from complications from Lyme disease. We send our sympathy and our thoughts to her grieving parents, Dereck & Katya who miss their baby girl so much. Sneakers will be cremated and her ashes will be scattered on her favorite beach in Maine where she, Dereck, and Katya loved to run for the past several Summers.

Westin Cathy

This is Westin Cathy, our first greyhound, who was born on Christmas day in 1993. She taught her adoptive family patience, laughter, and the love of this wonderful breed. Cathy was great with all the fosters, and she loved her life to the fullest. We couldn't have had a more tolerant pet. We thank her for the time we shared together and we wish her the best on her travels over the rainbow bridge. We miss her already.

Martha Schoene (Vice President of Forever Home Greyhounds) and Family

Motion

Our hearts go out to the Turner family who have just lost their best friend, Motion. She was such a sweet happy little soul and was called home at a very young age, making her untimely passing even harder to bear. Her companion Bea is doing her best to help the family through this most difficult time. Motion has joined her sisters, Rainbow and Ashleigh, across the Rainbow Bridge where the sun smiles down upon them every day. You are deeply loved, and missed, Motion, and your family will never forget how you touched their hearts and their lives.

Louis Caliguire

With heavy hearts we bid farewell to Louis Caliguire, who left his loving family far too soon. Louis was only 6 years old when he lost his courageous battle with Bone Cancer. His mom, Mariesa, says that Louis changed her life forever, and his passing leaves a huge hole in her heart which will be impossible to fill. He was her very best friend and they shared that special bond that only another Greyhound family could understand. Our hearts go out to Mariesa and her family. You will be terribly missed, Louis, but we know that you are on the Heavenly side of the beautiful Rainbow Bridge now, free from pain and running with the wind accompanied by all of your friends who traveled there before you. God Speed Louis.

"Minnie" Melo
Always in our hearts
12/1/97 - 8/20/07

"Minnie"

Here is a letter written to Minnie from her Mommy and Daddy:

Dear Minnie,

No words could ever express how lost we are without you. But we know that you are in a place where your health and youthful energy have been restored and that you are able to run, play, and enjoy a life that you so deserve. We miss looking into your soulful eyes, as you always we're able to tell us your feelings through them. We miss your gentle loving touch. Minnie, you we're truly an extraordinary dog and we'll always hold you close in our hearts. You impacted our lives in so many positive ways and we truly feel blessed that we all touched each others lives in such special ways. We'll embrace all the wonderful memories we've created together, and never let go. We know that we'll all be together again one day. But until then. We'll keep you near in our hearts, thoughts, dreams and prayers. Minnie... you truly touched our lives. We love you and miss you. We'll never stop loving you.

Love,
Mommy & Daddy
xoxo

"Tatum "

Our hearts go out to our friend Donna Morin who has lost yet another fur baby......Here is Donna's tribute to her baby girl:

Some very heartbreaking news. Tatum, my supermodel, co-founder and inspiration for Bowwow Bonnets has gone to the bridge to be with her Mom, brothers and friends who have gone before her. Xrays showed that my beautiful girl had bone cancer in her shoulder down to her elbow. There were no options for us but to say goodbye. That was our deal and I would never go back on a deal I made with my Tatie girl. She had become quite the celebrity and will be missed by all who knew her, especially me. Hug and kiss your puppers, they are only here such a short time.

" Sasha "

"Ashley Turner "

Ashley Turner died peacefully in her sleep on October 24; she would have been nine the end November 2006. She was in good health (the vet had seen her in July) but we guess it was her turn to go over the Rainbow Bridge. Ashley leaves behind to grieve, her Mom and Dad, Mary and Harvey, brother Nick, and her little sister Motion ( pink collar ) Ahley was her mommy's GOOD GIRL, except when led astray by baby sister Motion. Our sympathy tp Ashleys family. Ashley is now waiting patiently for her loved ones on the other side of the beautiful RAINBOW BRIDGE, where the sun shines every day and the warm breeze caresses her silken fur. Goodby sweet Ashley, you are dearly loved and sorely missed by all who love you.

"Tristan"

Sadly we bid a tearful farewell to Tristan Gouin who was whisked away without warning from his adoring family. His passing has brought such sorrow to his human companions, but they know without doubt that Tristan is now busily exploring the wonders that exist on the other side of the beautiful Rainbow Bridge. Here is what his mom Michelle has to say about her sweet Tristan:

One of the most beautiful images that I have in my mind is Tristan on a cold
winter's nice when snow and ice covered all, standing poised on the frozen earth
scenting the wind. Despite over 4000 years of breeding and his short coat, he
was all wolf then and utterly beautiful. He was so close
to human that I could hear him speak in my mind, struggling to use my words to
convey his thoughts. He would get frustrated that I couldn't understand
everything. The simple things were easy, "I'm hungry" or "I want a cookie" or
"You need to let me outside right now to go potty" or the very imperative "Let's
go for a walk!" But there were deeper, more abstract things that he wanted me
to know, and there was a very fine barrier that we almost climbed over or broke
through. I regret that we weren't give the time to complete that, and also that
he'll never again shove his nose under my hand when
I'm holding my morning cup of coffee, threatening my suit.
Or that he will nevermore jump into bed and squish up next
to me, demanding that I use both hands to pet him.

He clearly had his priorities in place. The number of hands that needed to be
on him at any time rubbing his ears, giving him a back rub, etc, was 2 times the
number of people in the room. Too bad Lilly, none for you. The cats were
beneath his notice, despite Selene's continued devotion to her Big Boy. Cookies
(graham crackers) came next. But walks were first. And being in whatever room
I happened to be in. Especially if there was a bed or sofa.

His eyes stopped me and those eyes, and the soft feel of his coat, will be with me forever.

He is being cremated, and we will take him for one last walk through the park,
spreading little bits of him along the way.

I just feel so sad that I ony had him for a few years, I thought that he would
be with me for a good many more. He was everything that a greyhound should be,
and more. You could actually count on him to bark and scare the bad guys even,
even if he was just demanding that they come over and pet him right now.

"Isis"

We first met Isis in March of 1993. We had desperately wanted a dog, and our home visitor had decided we would do best with a puppy because our daughter was 3 1/2 at the time and both "pups" could grow up together. We never had to pick Isis - she [picked us! From that moment we knew she was our own, and we were hers, fully and completely.Isis was a dramatic girl. She never technically spoke, but her face and manner were so expressive we never had to doubt what her opinion of any given thing was. She smiled, snorted, laughed (she would do this by dipping her head a few times in succession, like a dolphin), turned her head away from you pointedly, and showed what she thought in a thousand other subtle ways .
Strangely enough, Isis's great joy was to sleep with her nose in my armpit. At first I would think "Poor dog, I'll move and save you from what must be a mistake." But then she would just re-adjust her snoot to be there again, where I smell most like myself. After I while I figured out that dogs have a different smell-aesthetic, and that really was where she wanted to be.

Isis lived with us from that snowy day in March until another terrible day in March, 2006. She had been on Rimadyl (an anti-inflamatory) for a little over six months for trouble with her back legs, which increasingly didn't follow along with her elegant front legs because swelling near her spine meant the messages weren't getting from her brain to her back quite as well as they should. Sometimes she'd "lose" her back legs when she was out, and we'd have to help her up, but she wasn't in any pain (just embarrassed). She actually liked to take her "peanut butter treat" every night and morning (if you have to "pill" a greyhound, wrap it in a spoonful of peanut butter - they love it). Then she started to limp painfully. It was strange because she was limping in the front, where her problem had been, up until then, with her back legs. We took her to our vet and heard the worst possible news. An x-ray revealed that our beloved doggie daughter had bone cancer. We saw the x-ray, and it looked as if something had been chewing on one of Isis's lovely long legs. There was danger that the decreased healthy bone, which had been eaten thin, would break, and Isis would be in incredable pain. Dr. Moore told us that we could amputate her leg, but that would gain us only months, and it would be hard for a 13-year-old dog to spend her last days learning to adjust to walking with three legs, so it would just be something we were doing for ourselves to take this alternative. To us, that was no alternative. In all things relating to Isis, we had always put what was best for her first. We took her home so our daugher, her sister, could say goodbye to her, and then, with her loving family all around her, and a vet who cared deeply about her, we broke our own hearts and freed Isis from her pain.

I hope that somewhere there is a comfy couch where greyhounds wait. I hope they are not conscious of time there. I hope they are well fed, and get to gallop free on soft turf, free from all pain and alive in the sheer greyhound joy of flight. But these dogs are people dogs. It will not be heaven for any of us until we are reunited, because greyhounds just want to be with their families forever, and for them life is not complete until those they love are all together nearby. And certainly it is true that in our hearts and in our minds, Isis will be with us until we are free to join her there on heaven's comfy couch and soft grassy fields. - Tracy Botting, Isis's Mum

"Ian"

We bid a sad farewell to Ian. His heart that was so full of love, stopped abrubtly on Sunday July 9,2006. A dear sweet soul who left us without warning and far too soon . He waits for us all, across the Rainbow Bridge where once again his heart beats strong and true. Farewell sweet Ian, we all miss you very much.

"Daisy''

"Tulip"

"Rosie"

Three of The Flower Girls, Tulip, Rosie, and Daisy, have gone to wait
patiently at The Bridge for their friend, Jasmine.
We love them and miss them dearly; they were/are wonderful girls.

"Pilot"

In Loving memory of " PILOT" a sweet and gentle soul who left us far too soon. Dearly loved and sadly missed by his mom and dad Tom & Tatiana and his feathered friend Valentina. Pilot is waiting patiently in the beautiful field of flowers just the other side of the Rainbow Bridge.

"Amber"

Amber Schoene was called home to the heavenly side of the Rainbow Bridge after many happy years with her family. Sadly missed by human family members Tom, Martha, Virginia & Gwen, and her fur siblings Kathy, Ballad, and Safari. She is now running through the flowers, young and well. God Speed Amber. We Love You !

" Cindy Lou"

Our little Cindy Lou came to us in September1997. We were the third family to adopt her, so she came to our home already " knowing the ropes" of living with People and fully enjoying retirement. She was a delight to have; she never barked, never fought or was aggressive with our other Greyt baby, Cosmo (who passed beyond the Rainbow Bridge December, 2004) and hardly ever messed in the house ;->.  After we lost Cosmo to Ostoesarcoma, we discovered a few months later that Cindy had mouth cancer. By this time, Cindy was 14 years old, so Joel and I decided not to put her through invasive procedures to treat her cancer. Instead, we enjoyed her and cherished every minute we had with her, knowing that our time was limited. The day we took her to her last Vet appointment, she was calm and accepting. She let us know that she was tired and ready to join her buddy, Cosmo, on the Other Side.

As with all things, Cindy was stoic and never complained. She was "Miss Personality" and a really smart Pup. We loved her so much, but she loved us more and gave us a lifetime of wonderful memories. We all miss her so much, but I know someday we will all be together again.

She is sadly missed by her owners Joel & Theresa Church.

" Pedro "

He was with us less than 1 year but in the short time we knew him , he changed our lives .
He was only 4 years old when he left us and we hope that the 11 months we shared with him were the best 11 months he ever had . We lost him as the result of a seizure disorder which became progressively worse until we could not control even with the finest veterinary care .

Pedro LaPorte , dearly loved and sadly missed by his family , now running free in the cool green grass where every day is full of sunshine and good health on the Heavenly side of the Beautiful Rainbow Bridge.

Pedro- 4/01 - 3/05

"Pinky"

Dearly loved and sadly missed by all who knew her.
A sweet trusting little soul who left us far too soon.

God Speed little Pinky , you will never be forgotten.

BLUEBERRY JAMMER / JAMMIE

Dearly loved companion and soulmate of our friends
Rick Talaga and Donna Morin, known by hundreds of folks who had never met him in person .

Rick took Jammer up north to our real vet, Dr. Mary Sue Lux (who I call Dr. Princess) and she knew just by looking at him the news would not be good. I guess deep down I knew too but tried the positive thinking approach. He had pelvic cancer.

Anyway, Jammer left this world at 11:17 am on January 2nd. Rick was with him and I was glad that he was able to make it up to see Dr. Princess who had taken care of him his whole post track life.

I told Jammie before he left on his road trip that I loved him and that I wanted him to come home, but, if he couldn't and it was his time to leave us, I would understand, try to be strong, and someday meet him on the other side.

Here is a picture of Jam that was taken on his 9th birthday just a few short months ago. He was a happy boy that was loved and will be missed terribly. His brother Trevor and sisters Tatum and Trista along with his friend Greycie are grieving right along with us.
